Pods or Bank Sticks?

I often get asked, “which is best, a pod or single bank sticks?” For me the answer is simple, I will use bank sticks whenever possible and will only use a pod if there is no way that I can get the sticks into the ground.

When I am fishing I want my bite indication to be the best it can be. Bank sticks help me achieve this by allowing me to point the rods directly at the bait. It is all about reducing angles, thus increasing the sensitivity of your set up. I firmly believe that having my rods pointing at the bait, with the line running in a straight line from reel too hook is the best set up I can get.

I think that bite indication is fundamental to success, but unfortunately it gets little attention. I will do a more in depth post about bite indication in the near future.

I have found a solution to the times when it is impossible to use sticks and a pod would have to be employed. Defiant MPS produce a pod called the Trident Fantail, it is a pod that allows you to “fan” your rods out. Whilst I do not have one yet, I have my name on the waiting list and will report back.

At the time of writing I did not own a fantail pod, that all changed about 18 months ago. I am now a true convert, the fan tail gives me the best of both worlds. The stability of a pod on any type of ground whilst being able to point my rods directly at the baits.

The build quality is second to none and the amount of custom options is amazing

I love mine and can not see me going back to bank sticks or a standard pod any time soon

In the meantime why not take a look at the website (Defiant MPS), I think you will be most impressed. When I used to use a pod all the time I had a Trident and I was and still am very impressed.
